Description
Wair Nokerua or holy water, is believed by local people as a sign that Saint Francis Xavier, once set foot in that place.
It is said that in 1546, on a voyage through the Flores sea, the ship on which St. Francis Xaverius was running was out of drinking water, and pulled over on this beach in search of water.
St. Francis Xavier then went to a cave, and performed a miracle. He prayed and knocked on the rock in the cave three times. And from inside the cave immediately came out very clear and fresh water even though the distance from the beach was very close, making the local people who were there at that time amazed.
Until now, the water is still flowing fast even though in summer the water never stops flowing.
The local community and sailors who pass by this place always stop to get clean water.
This place is always crowded with tourists and pilgrims who have a special purpose, come to pray and take water to drink directly, or fill it in bottles to take home.
Located approximately 19 km from the city of Maumere, in addition to holy water flowing from the gap in the cave, this place also has white sandy beaches and clean water.
